Live Your Dream Life
Live the life you’ve always dreamed of. This is the first sentence on a picture I have on my office wall. It sounds great, doesn’t it? Who doesn’t want to live their dream life? But how many of us could say we are actually doing that? I honestly think it’s a pretty small percentage of people. So, why is that? Why are so many of us NOT living our dream life? Is it because our dream is too big and seems unachievable? Or maybe we don’t even have a dream life because our real life has beaten us down for so long we don’t even think about it anymore. Maybe we have a dream for our future but feel stuck in reality. Perhaps we are working diligently toward it but hitting obstacles along the way. Whatever the reason, few of us are fulfilling our dreams by living them out in our everyday life.
Living the life you’ve always dreamed of starts with having a dream. If you have one, great! Now you have something to work with. If you don’t have one, it’s time to get one! You will never achieve a dream you don’t have. Remember when you were a kid and dreaming came easily to you? A common question we ask children is, “What do you want to be when you grow up?” Have you ever met a kid (or been a kid) who did not have an answer? Most kids have an answer because it is natural to dream about the future. They want to be firefighters or police officers or professional athletes or the President or a lawyer or a doctor or a photographer or a writer or a mom or a veterinarian or…you fill in the blank.
You will never achieve a dream you don’t have
As we get older the harsh reality of the adult world tends to dampen and even crush our dreams to the point where we stop dreaming altogether. Some people are fortunate enough to realize the dream career they had as a child but many do not. Many people find themselves stuck in a career or job that is sucking the life out of them. The reason it’s life-defeating is because it is not utilizing their gifts and abilities in a way that makes them feel fulfilled.
So, I challenge you today to take some time to ponder. I like that word ponder. It means to think about something carefully; to consider something, often for a lengthy amount of time. Consider your future. Think carefully about your dreams. Don’t let your current reality keep you from the hope of your future. Anything is possible if you set your mind to it.
